The forest of Nibel is dying. After a powerful storm sets a series of devastating events in motion, an unlikely hero must journey to find his courage and confront a dark nemesis to save his home. “Ori and the Blind Forest” tells the tale of a young orphan destined for heroics, through a visually stunning action-platformer crafted by Moon.

One of the reasons for the great popularity of The Forest, which appeared for the first time on Steam in Early Access in May 2014, we can certainly find the contact restrictions. Like the entire medium of computer games, gloomy survival games are also experiencing an upswing in times of the corona pandemic.

But that’s by no means the only reason for The Forest’s second (third?) Spring. In fact, numerous positive influences come together.

What are the reasons?

The successor is coming: With Sons of The Forest, the second part of the successful survival game has been announced, which will be released in 2021. Apparently, some players want to catch up with The Forest, while old players could dare a new run. The successor also recently received a new trailer, which you can watch here:

Sons of the Forest: New trailer shows more gameplay for the sequel of the survival hit

Steam-Sale: The Forest is currently reduced in the Steam Winter Sale 2020 as much as it has rarely been before. A 50 percent discount pushes the price for the full version to under nine dollars. That should have convinced some new players to give the survival game a chance.

Still a very good game: Developer Endnight Games has maintained The Forest in an exemplary manner and even implemented new features such as a VR mode after the full release. The Forest has aged very well despite several years of early access, as our test for the 2018 release shows:

Not only we, but also the players are convinced of The Forest. On Steam

The Forest got 94 percent positive reviews, the most recent reviews are 96 percent positive.

These reasons make The Forest an evergreen that can be expected years after its release. That should also be good news for the developers, after all, bodes well for the success of the second part. Also in our community, Sons of the Forest is by far the most eagerly awaited survival game in 2021:

The Forest Steam

This is what the author means: How fitting! When colleague Phil pointed out the new steam record to me, my wife and I had almost finished building a log cabin in The Forest and accidentally tore it down completely, beat up various cannibals and almost wet myself in fear in VR (despite co-op support). We were two of the new (and returning) players at a new all-time high.

And in fact, the reasons mentioned in the news were the decisive factor for my brave partner and me to fight for survival in the mysterious forest: The successor is just around the corner, the game is on sale as cheap as it has been in a long time and it belongs still one of the best survival games for single-player and co-op fans six years after the first release. 3 inch paint brush.

Achievement - Official The Forest Wiki

Surely some players feel like us and share a common, creepy survival experience in lockdown. It is not for nothing that at least 50 percent of all The Forest players on Steam have already tried co-op, as records an achievement that can only be obtained in multiplayer mode. That might sound like a paradox, but with such intense games it’s easy to forget the oppressive present in the pandemic.

The Forest is especially good fun in co-op when you are one of the … more emotional people. Tonight my wife is “allowed” to experience VR mode while I comfortably giggle on the flat screen.

How are you doing? Have you already played The Forest or are you currently playing it actively? If the latter, what are your reasons for returning?
