Transmission Failure problem of the 2014 Nissan Versa 2

A recall job, transmission computer upgrade, was completed by tracy Nissan dealership and now my Nissan Versa will go no faster than 10 mph. No indications of transmission failure were displayed upon completion of the recall correction. This car is only six years old with approximately 102,640 miles. A complaint has been logged with Nissan, but my efforts have been ineffective thus far. The car was driven to the tracy Nissan dealership on 10/20/2020 and kept over night. On 10/21/2020, the recall was complete and the Nissan was driven away. Less than 20 minutes later, the transmission experienced a catastrophic failure while driven on the freeway. The car would go no faster than 10 mph. On the same date, 10/21/2020, the Nissan was towed back, at my expense, to the dealership where it is currently located pending discissions with Nissan.

Transmission Failure problem of the 2012 Nissan Versa 3

My 2012 Versa, won't shift gears, stalls and even with the gas all the way down, it won't accelerate. Took it to Nissan rossen in milwaukee, WI. For a diagnostic, result: transmission failure, cost to replace it $4,200. 00. I see a lot of complaints for the same issue. Also if there is a recall for that why my VIN number is not included? Nissan should be liable for that issue and repair the affected cars. Note : my transmission went off at 53000 miles.

Transmission Failure problem of the 2012 Nissan Versa 4

Transmission failed after only eight years with proper maintenance. I reversed out of my driveway and into the busy highway and when I put it in drive it would not move at all. I am very lucky that the oncoming traffic noticed I was having issues or I would certainly be dead. My mechanic said it is not worth it to replace the transmission because it will only fail again and again. I have been advised to get rid of the vehicle and purchase a new one, it seems Nissan's cvt transmissions have had a lot of issues that are widely known. It is unfortunate that Nissan is allowed to continue selling lemons. My very first car was a 1981 monte carlo and the transmission on that car never had to be replaced, I used that car until 2016 and the only reason I got rid of it was that the frame buckled if that car can go 35 years with no transmission problems, then there is absolutely no excuse for a 2012 transmission to fail in 8 years.

I warmed the car up for a few minutes because of the stalling problem. I was driving on the street for two miles when I came to a stop sign. I put on the brakes and the car shut down. The car was still in drive. There was no check engine light or warning prior to, during, or after the time the car shut down. I had to turn the ignition to the off position. Then put the car in park. Then crank the car back up to drive out the way of the cars behind me. I drove the car to the nearest Nissan dealership. They check the car. There were no codes in the computer. The dealership is going to keep the car overnight and test drive it in the morning when it is cold. I am very disappointed. I just purchased the car two months ago with 5000 miles. Today it only has 8000 miles on it and it is stalling and shutting off when I drive it. Complaint results: today, 11/30/2018 I called the Nissan dealership to get a status on my car. Nhtsa please make this problem known to the public so other Nissan owners don't have to go through the problems I am going through. Thank you.

Nissan Versa Transmission Fluid

My 2014 Nissan Versa cvt transmission is hesitating, failing to accelerate, and acting erratically. This is causing unsafe driving conditions. On 2 separate occasions, I and my son were almost 't-boned' while pulling out into a busy intersection. The cvt, at times, fails to accelerate properly, putting driver at risk. This car has 122,500 miles on the odometer. The original cvt transmission failed at 65,000 and the replacement cvt transmission is now failing. I brought my car into my dealer, Nissan autofare stratham, and they informed me that I need a new cvt transmission. I have since sent certified letter to Nissan north America notifying them of this. I spoke to markita scott, arbitration specialist/dispute resolution for Nissan north America. She didn't seem to really care about the safety aspect, and stated Nissan would not do anything for me even though this new transmission failed at just 55,000 miles. I believe this is a manufacturing/design flaw with this particular cvt transmission as I had 2 failed transmissions in just 122,000 miles. I also believe that these failures represent a significant safety hazard and the research I done indicates this particular problem is widespread. There's a class action lawsuit pending against Nissan for this cvt problem with this particular model. Thank you.

Transmission Failure problem of the 2014 Nissan Versa 16

My 2014 Nissan Versa has a cvt transmission that failed at 54,000 miles. It was replaced with a re-manufactured cvt transmission under warranty. At 122,500, the transmission has failed again. In addition to 'shuddering', the car at times will fail to accelerate, causing a potential hazardous situation to myself, passengers and other drivers on the road. On several occasions, the car has failed to accelerate, and I have almost been 't-boned' at busy intersections. I brought my car into the Nissan dealer and they confirmed that my transmission was failing, causing the lack of acceleration. I have phoned, emailed, and written to Nissan north America (certified mail) warning them about this problem and their response was that my car is out of warranty now and there's nothing they will do about it. I spoke directly with markita scott, arbitration specialist (615-725-7884). I mentioned to her the problems I was having and that the car's failing transmission posed a safety hazard. Her reply was the 'the car was out of warranty and they could not do anything about it. ' she repeated that numerous times and seemed not to care about the safety aspect of driving this car. Thank you.

The contact declined to pay the fee for diagnostic testing; therefore, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified and opened case number: 30914316. The manufacturer informed the contact that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed, but no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 40,000.

Transmission Failure problem of the 2012 Nissan Versa 18

Vct transmission failure, transmission will fail with no warning, this is a deadly flaw in the design of the transmission, hundreds complaints online attest to the number of transmission failures in dangerous situations. My transmission failed at a busy intersection on a major 4 lane road we were almost hit broadside at a high rate of speed the other driver swerved to miss us and I had to push the car out of traffic. This is a potential deadly condition. I was stopped at a stop sign waiting on traffic when traffic cleared I hit the accelerator the car hesitated and surged onto the highway and stopped in the traffic lane with 65/70 mph traffic coming at us. The first car swerved to the ditch side and missed us the rest of the traffic saw what happened and stopped and went around. This is a very common problem with the transmissions in Nissan vehicles especially with the vct transmission. This is a very dangerous even deadly problem that has plagued Nissan for several years, they have recalled several makes of Nissan for transmission problems but refuse to address the safety issue and refuse to correct the faulty transmission problem, this problem is potentially as bad as the pinto fires, how many people have died in a cvt Nissan that we do not know about my wife and I were just yards from death because of this transmission failure. This needs to be investigated and Nissan needs to be remedy the situation.

Transmission Failure problem of the 2010 Nissan Versa 19

The transmission failed out of the blue at 150,000 miles. This occurred as the car was turning from a busy road into a parking lot and created a hazardous situation. There was no slipping or leaks to speak of beforehand. The tech who inspected it said that there was an internal seal leak failure. $4100 to replace it (more than the car is worth at this point).

The transmission failed in my 2012 Nissan Versa with only 125k miles on it.

Transmission Failure problem of the 2013 Nissan Versa 22

This Nissan vehicle's cvt transmission failed under warranty and was replaced. That transmission failed again in less than six months and because it was outside the replacement transmission's warranty, the dealer nor Nissan will replace the defective transmission. I don't want to replace the transmission for a third time with what appears to be a defective product that will likely fail again and is a serious safety issue that Nissan will not accept responsibility for.

Cvt transmission failed at 83,300 miles. Nissan dealership (corona) changed out transmission and stated new transmission has a warranty of only 12 months/12. 000 miles. Transmission Failure problem of the 2008 Nissan Versa 25

I was informed in may 2016 of the airbag recall and Nissan still does not have the part to repair it, they said Jan 2017. And now the transmission has failed in the vehicle and Nissan wants to charge 4600. 00 to fix it. I have spoken to several mechanics and Nissan has had a terrible failure rate with these to parts, also the front coil had to be replaced because of a recall. In the state of virginia you have to pass an inspection and that was due in may 2016 and the airbag parts are not in till 01/2019. I had to spend money out of my own pocket to have the car pass inspection in order for my daughter to drive it without getting a moving violation for failed inspection. Nissan said they would be glad to give me a discount only I purchased a new vehicle- that is unjust.

The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who confirmed the transmission failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

Transmission Failure problem of the 2012 Nissan Versa 27

I had the 60,000 service done on this car at my local Nissan dealership on Dec 14, 2015. Part of that service involved inspecting the continuously variable transmission fluid. Apparently it was ok. Six days later my daughter was driving it to new orleans and it stopped in the middle of the interstate. Luckily, nobody was close behind her and she was able to drift it to the side of the highway. We had it towed to a new orleans area dealer and are being told that the transmission needs to be replaced at a cost of $3900. We were also told that the car is out of warranty and Nissan would not help with the repair. This is a 4 year old car with 65,000 miles on it. A quick search of the internet shows several people also having transmission failures at about that same mileage. Several have had the car stop in the middle of the highway just like mine did.

I took the car for a recall on the transmission and two months latter the check engine light came on. The car when driving 60 mph will just decreases in speed until it stops the engine is running. I took it to the dealer ship and was told the speed sensor inside the transmission was bad. To fix the problem the transmission must be replaced. The car has 78, 987 miles on it, I was looking on line and found many complaints about the cvt transmission used by Nissan. Most complaints said after the dealer repaired the recall on the transmission it failed. What is the process of filing a class action law suit against Nissan motor corporation?.

Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Nissan Versa. The contact stated that the vehicle hesitated while on an incline and randomly while driving on a roadway. The contact also mentioned that the transmission was slow to change gears between 1st and 3rd gear. The contact had to constantly check the gears to ensure they were changed over. The service engine warning light also randomly illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop and the mechanic inspected that there was a cvt transmission failure and to take the vehicle to a dealer for diagnosis and repair. The contact was also experiencing a failure in which the distance between the accelerator pedal and brake pedal was causing the contacts foot at times to be trapped between the two pedals and he had to maneuver his feet with the pedals to prevent a failure. The contact was not notified but was included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v507000 (service brakes, hydraulic , vehicle speed control) and was to schedule the recall repair with the dealer concerning the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the transmission needed to be replaced and the dealer was to further diagnose the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 106,000. Dyd.

2012 Nissan Versa Transmission Problems

Transmission Failure problem of the 2012 Nissan Versa 30

My husband was driving home from work in our 2012 Nissan Versa. He was on the highway traveling through a construction zone at approximately 55 mph when the car suddenly cut out on him. He pumped the gas pedal but the car would not accelerate over 20 mph. He pulled the car off at the closest exit. It was towed to a Nissan dealership where it was evaluated. We were notfied that a total transmission replacement was necessary. I contacted Nissan and was informed that Nissan took no responsibility for the transmission failure because the warranty had expired. However, in the scheduled maintenance provided in the owner's manual the first transmission related maintenance does not occur until 60,000 when they recommend checking the transmission fluid. Nissan claims they have no way of verifying that vehicle maintenance was completed because we did not have the maintenance completed at a Nissan dealership. I offered to provide our records of maintenance from our provider but Nissan was not interested in seeing them. I spoke to three different Nissan assist representatives. Finally, I was informed by the last representative that there was no one else to which I could petition my case. In summary, if you have a Nissan Versa you should expect to replace your entire transmission when the vehicle is three years old. In the past, Nissan has extended warranty coverage on Versa model years 2003-2010 for issues with the transmission. I think a manufacturer's defect still exists in their transmissions. I think this defect was the cause of our total transmission failure. I just hope that no one is killed when their transmission fails them in the middle of rush hour.

Transmission Failure problem of the 2010 Nissan Versa 31

The contact owns a 2010 Nissan Versa. When the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle hesitated to accelerate. The dealer diagnosed that the cvt transmission failed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000.

Transmission Failure problem of the 2007 Nissan Versa 32

My transmission was unable to upshift to highway speeds. The closest Nissan dealer verified my cvt transmission had adequate fluid. I limbered the car home. Upon searching the internet I read numerous posts of multiple owners with similar problems with Nissan's 2007-2010 model year cvt transmissions. Nissan, admitted to their flawed cvt transmission by extending the warranty to 10 years/120 k miles. I filed a warranty claim with Nissan as I was just slightly over the mileage warranty but well within the time frame part of the warranty. Nissan's extended warranty document claims they will assist vehicle owners with transmission related expenses for those transmissions that fail beyond the extended warranty. Marissa (615-725-7447) from Nissan contacted me this morning stating that Nissan will not help cover any of my expenses I have had several Nissan service departments admit to me the excessive problems they have seen with this vintage cvt transmission compared to other transmissions and the large amounts of this type transmission they have had to replace. Nissan should be held accountable for their inferior design and production of this cvt transmission. At a minimum they should be assisting in my huge expense (over $ 3000) that I am experiencing right now. They claim to commit to this in writing within the extended warranty verbiage, but in my attempt for assistance I have been flatly denied. I am a very unsatisfied Nissan customer, fortunately for them there was no personal injury to me or other drivers when I was unable to maintain a safe driving speed on my way home. I ask for your assistance on this matter for I am confident that there are an excessively high amount of Nissan cvt transmission failures within the 2007-2010 model year, well beyond the industry norm. They should help pay for part of my expenses as they commit to within the extended warranty.

Transmission Failure problem of the 2009 Nissan Versa 33

Transmission failed while driving on main road uphill, car rolled into oncoming traffic without and way to stop. Rolled car (backwards down hill) into closest parking lot. Dealership confirmed a failed transmission. Nissan is aware of issues with this transmission but will not recall or make ethical route to keep consumer safety a priority.

Transmission Failure problem of the 2007 Nissan Versa 34

Known Nissan cvt transmission issue on 2007 Nissan Versa and many other Nissan vehicles equipped with the cvt transmission. Our 2007 Versa stopped moving while in 'drive' in an extremely busy intersection - thankfully it did not result in a serious accident. We were able to pull off to the side of the road, put it in 'park' and then back into 'drive' to get it back home. Nissan has officially recognized & noted this cvt transmission issue on thier 'Nissan cvt customer satisfaction program' website and has extended the warranty to cover effected/faulty transmissions. My vehicle has been at a local Nissan dealer for 2 weeks awaiting Nissan authorization to perform the warranty repair. The larger concern is as follows - given the failure mode we experienced and the associated dangers related to a cvt transmission failure, why is this not a federal mandated safety recall? this situation is no different than the current gm ignition switch issue in my opinion. Failure of the Nissan cvt transmision in certain situations can result in an accident, serious injury and even death.

Transmission Failure problem of the 2007 Nissan Versa 35

The vehicle was not driven a lot and at 55000 miles it developed the problem of transmission coolant failure, this will cause the vehicle to lock up even during driving and cause an unsafe driving condition. Luckily we detected quick enough that we did not have anyone harmed during the operation of the car. Nissan refuses to cover all repair work under the extended guarantee and ensure safe driving from the debris left in the coolant line but did replace the transmission and radiator. There is no guarantee that the coolant pump, thermostat or other coolant devices won't fail and cause other operational hazards, if they do indeed fail as a result of their negligence to perform a full repair; and ensuring that the lines and coolant systems are free from debris and will not fail under use. Failure of the coolant system can cause overheating of the engine and may pose a unsafe driving hazard, however by their (Nissan) definition changing the radiator and transmission and leaving debris in the coolant lines is within reason and safety guidelines and do not have to flush or replace any other component that the oil mixture has touched even if it did damage those components as a result of the oil mixture.

Nissan Versa transmission or cruise control problems

If you have Nissan Versa transmission problems and are scared you’re looking at a major transmission rebuild, or you’ve got Nissan Versa cruise control problems, read this post.

In diagnosing the problem a shop normally finds trouble codes for speed sensors, sensors, gearshift position, transmission control module (TCM) communication, shift solenoids, or gear slippage. Many of these trouble codes and cause the ECM to place the system in reduced power mode to the point where the car can hardly move. The shop usually suspects a transmission problem, especially since these transmissions are prone to failures. But the cause may actually be an electrical issue.

Nissan located many electrical connectors directly under the lead acid battery. If the battery is leaking, the acid falls onto the connectors and corrodes them, causing all kinds of strange electrical shorts and intermittent problems that cause trouble codes to set.

Before you take your vehicle into the shop, remove the battery and check the battery tray for signs of leakage. Then remove the tray and examine all the connectors. If you find corrosion, neutralize the acid with baking soda or aerosol battery terminal cleaner. Rinse off the cleaner, scrub away the corrosion, and treat all the connectors with Stabilant 22. If the connectors are deteriorated to the point where the metal is gone, you’ll have to splice in new pigtails.

Next, check the condition of the air filter. A clogged air filter can reduce high end performance and mimic a bad transmission. Makes it feel like the CVT transmission is slipping.
